Wind blows semitrailer into ditch, killing turkeys

Posted: Monday, Jul 28th, 2008

A strong gust of wind blew a semitrailer hauling turkeys to Dakota Provisions off Highway 37 north of Huron early Friday morning, authorities said.

The Beadle County Sheriff’s Office said Cody Rahder of Huron was southbound when the truck was blown into the west ditch.

He was able to keep the truck from tipping over as it went into a pasture. But turkeys and their cages came off the flatbed trailer and some turkeys were killed. Rahder was uninjured.

The accident happened six miles north of Huron at about 5 a.m.
