State Fair Manager Jerome Hertel Sunday said all of the numbers are up and he declared the 2009 Wheel Jam to be “another success.”
A total of 120 semis participated in the three-day event on the state fairgrounds, along with 105 classic cars and 44 motorcycles.
The main attraction on Sunday was the presentation of trophies in the three divisions and the drawing for a Chevy S-10 or $5,000 in cash. Marcia Johnson of Huron won the drawing and opted to take the cash. The vehicle, made by Keith Cundy of Huron, will be sold on e-bay.
With the rains holding off, Hertel said that helped a lot on the final day. He said there was a good crowd at the Battle of the Bands on Friday night and the Judd Hoos concert on Saturday. The Hoos concert was moved into the Family Living Center because of the rain.
Sherwin Linton and the Cotton Kings also moved to the Family Living Center for their Saturday concert. Hertel said many people opted for the free entertainment provided by Linton and his band.
The car races were cancelled.
Norman Mason of Huron was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the 18-Wheel Truck Promotions. (See related story).
Other location changes included audio sound competition, moved to the Expo Building, and the Motorcycle Show and Shine, Tech Center.
“We have 90 buildings on the fairgrounds which makes it easy to move inside when it becomes necessary,” he said.
