Laura Tagtow, 97, of Kennebec, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center in Chamberlain.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Reliance United Methodist Church in Reliance with burial in Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hickey-Wevik Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Laura Esther Fletcher was born Sept. 27, 1911, to Fred and Minnie (Fletcher) Fletcher at Reliance. She graduated from Reliance High School in 1930. She attended college at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell and Teachers College in Madison. She taught at South Cloud Country School near Reliance, and later at Star School in Iona.
She married Robert Tagtow June 12, 1935, in Madison. They lived in Grand Marais, Minn., moving to Madison and then to Reliance in 1942. She taught school and did substitute teaching. She worked as a clerk for the Reliance Post Office for 18 years. She moved to the Regency Retirement Assisted Living in Chamberlain in March 2001. In August 2001 she moved to Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center in Chamberlain. She taught Sunday school 40 years and was a member of the ladies group.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Charles) Bowar of Kennebec; a son, Gene (JoAnn) Tagtow of Huron; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; two sisters; and three brothers.
