A cake decorating contest will be among the featured events at the first Thursday of the Family Night Activities in Campbell Park June 4.
The cake decorating contest will be sponsored by the YWCA. Three prizes will be awarded for $50, $25 and $15 in Huron Bucks.
The judges will be Deb Moreland, Cindy Barnes and Leanne Moeding.
After the cakes are judged, they will be taken to the park and served to those in attendance.
Helen Crow is in charge of the event.
Dominant 7, an instrumental group from Northern State University in Aberdeen will be featured at 7 p.m.
The Huron International Club will perform at 6:30 p.m. with Pauline Crippen at 8 p.m.
• The Campbell Park Talent Show will take place the next Thursday night, June 11, beginning at 7 p.m.
The contestants will be divided into three groups. One group will be for youngsters 12 and under, another for 13-18 year olds and the third for those 19 and older.
The American Bank and Trust will co-sponsor the talent show with the Campbell Park Family Activities Committee.
Judges for the music contest will be Barb Tschetter, Gayle Cranston and Sharon Jones.

The registration deadline is June 9.
• Children’s entertainer Jake Chenier has been booked for the June 18 program in the park. He will perform at 7 p.m. and is being sponsored by the city Parks and Recreation Department, Friends of the Library and the Family Night Committee.
The Huron Municipal Band, directed by Al Palsma, will play its first concert of the summer at 8 p.m.
• On June 25, Don Whitney and Jeff Blomberg will perform at the park at 6:30 p.m. Elizabeth Ryland and Jodi Jensen will be featured at 7:30 p.m., followed by the band at 8 p.m.
• Frank Pallaria will sing some of his old favorites at 7 p.m. July 2, followed by Leo Jensen of Alpena at 7:30 p.m.
The band will end the night with a concert at 8 p.m.
A Taste of Huron feed, sponsored by Leadership Huron, is also planned for that night.
• The First United Methodist Church Praise Team is scheduled to play at 7 p.m. July 9, followed by the band at 8 p.m.
• Mike Whitney and friends will take the stage at 7 p.m. July 16, followed by Rick Jensen of Arlington at 7:30 p.m. The band will play at 8 p.m.
• “We Found Sound,” a youth show choir, will perform at 7 p.m. July 23, followed by the band.
• On July 30, the Huron Public Library will present its annual reading awards at 7 p.m. Phil Baker, children’s entertainer, will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by the final band concert at 8 p.m.
Dakotaland Federal Credit Union will sponsor this night.
• Joey Kunz of Bismarck, N.D., will perform at 7 p.m. on Aug. 6, followed by youth violin and piano students of Beth Neitzert at 7:30 p.m.
Greg Hager will be featured at 8 p.m.
• Kaye Haug will be in charge of Gospel Night on Aug. 13. More information will be released later.
• The final night of the summer will be Pie in the Park on Aug. 20. The James River Bluegrass Band will perform at 7 p.m. Entries in the pie baking contest should bring them to the YWCA.
Sponsors will be Wells Fargo Bank, Plainsman, YWCA, Coborn’s, Fair City Foods and the Campbell Park Committee.
A Girl Scout troop headed by Lisa Heisen will be in charge of concessions each night.
The Campbell Park Committee consists of Barb Valer, Lisa Wolf, Deannie LeRoux, Gayle Cranston, Kaye Haug, Joanne Thurnbeck, Mike Whitney, Beth Neitzert, Jana Cobb and Roger Kasa.
