The Huron Community Foundation has received a $100,000 challenge grant from four local residents.
The challenge grant means that if a person donates $1,000 over four years, the total gift becomes $2,000.
If the challenge is matched, the foundation will be able to deposit another $200,000 in the fund balance.
A total of 100 percent of all contributions for HCF go directly to the endowment for the future of Huron.
The challenge comes from local residents, Pete Mies, Carol Hohm, in memory of her husband, Dr. Paul Hohm, and Dick and Suzanne Werner.
To date, the Huron Community Foundation has granted $21,200 in grants to worthwhile projects benefiting the local community.
Since only the interest earned on the fund balance is used to provide grants, the larger the balance grows and more funds will be available to offer local groups.
The Huron Community Foundation is a tax-exempt organization formed in April 2004 to create a community savings account that will grow and benefit everyone in Huron for generations to come.
Donations may be mailed to HCF, 15 Fourth St. S.E., Huron, S.D., 57350.
