Huron JV golfers finish sixth at ESD meet in Mitchell

MITCHELL — With a pair of golfers in the top 12, the Huron girls’ golf team finished sixth in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Junior Varsity Meet on Monday at Lakeview Golf Course.

Brandon Valley won the event with a 429, which was one stroke ahead of Mitchell. Pierre was third at 441, followed by Watertown at 449, Yankton at 475, Huron at 476 and Brookings at 480.

Sylvia Baumgartner of Brandon Valley won the event with an 88 , while teammate Danni Toates was fourth at 102.

Keira Mertes of Pierre was second with a 91, while Landyn Hajek of Mitchell as third at 98.

Jesselyn Matthews led Huron with a 106, which placed her No. 8 overall. Olivia Purintun was No. 12 for the Tigers with a 111.

Taryn Cass and Taylor Sorben finished in spots No. 30 and 31, respectively, for Huron with scores of 128 and 131.

The Tigers will host the Huron Invite at 10 a.m., on Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
