HURON – Lyle “Steve” Bublitz age 75, of Huron, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024.
His funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Hope Lutheran Church in Huron. His service will be livestreamed. His visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Steve was born to Lyle H. and Marcella (Steen) Bublitz in Watertown, on April 18, 1948. Steve and his parents lived in Clear Lake, Newcastle, Wyoming and Milbank, before moving to Brookings in 1958. Steve graduated from Brookings High School in 1966 and Dakota State University in 1970. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Davis in 1967 to which union a daughter, Michelle, and a son, Eric were born.
After graduating from DSU, Steve and Barb moved to St. Louis, Mo., where Steve was employed as a Financial Reports Analyst for the Farmers Home Administration. In December of 1973, they moved back to South Dakota, where their roots always were. They lived in De Smet, where Steve was employed, until his retirement, as the Local Government Audit Manager, supervising audits of cities, counties, and school districts for the South Dakota Auditor General. While in De Smet, they purchased the Gas-n-Goodies convenience store which was managed by Barb. In 2006 they moved to an acreage near Huron where Steve served as an owner of and guide for Fair Chase Pheasants. Many repeat customers of Fair Chase Pheasants became friends, and pheasant season seemed like family reunions to many of those involved.
Steve enjoyed making knives, reloading, remodeling firearms, building muzzleloaders, playing cards, watching movies, reading outdoor magazines, get togethers with family, and hunting both big and small game, especially with his children and grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife Barbara; his daughter, Michelle (Roger) Chase; his son Eric Bublitz; his grandchildren, Derek (Tia) Chase, Lexy (John) Foss, Ryan Chase, Degan Bublitz, and Reese Bublitz; and great-grandchildren, Holden Chase, Emilyn Chase, Brielle Chase, Hazel Foss and Eleanor Foss.
Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and one grandchild, Dillon Bublitz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Children’s Miracle Network.
