Miller, Edmunds Central win titles at JVC Invitational

HURON — The Miller girls and the Edmunds Central boys won titles during the James Valley Christian Invitational, which was held Tuesday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
With the top two golfers in the field and a total of five in the top 11, Miller recorded a score of 280 to win the girls’ title by 83 strokes.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was second with a 363, followed by Ipswich at 416.

Jayce Pugh and Kaihlyn Anderberg finished first and second, respectively, for the Rustlers. Pugh earned the medalist honors with an 86, while Anderberg was just a shot back with an 87.

Bailey Brueggeman was fifth for Miller with a 107, while teammates Cassi VanDerWerff and Sydney Asmuss were No. 10 and 11, respectively, with scores of 111 and 115.

Jadyn McDonald of Chester was fourth with a 93, followed by Olivia Knox of Doland at 101.

Addison Bartholow turned in a 108 to finish sixth for James Valley Christian.

Edmunds Central, which had two of the top five golfers, used a score of 254 to edge Wessington Springs by three strokes for the boys’ title.

Chester was third at 267, followed by Hamlin at 269 and Miller at 269.

Blake Larson of Wessington Springs shot a 79 to earn the medalist honors for the boys. He finished a stroke better than Aiden Abraham of Hamlin and Gavin Colson of Sully Buttes, who were second and third, respectively.

Harrison Beyers and Seth Hettick of Edmunds Central held the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, with scores of 82.

Rounding out the top 10 were Blake Miller of Wessington Springs with an 83, Oliver Fritzsche of Miller with an 84,

Kaiden Weinreis of Doland with an 85, Carter Vogel of Chester with an 87 and Chet Peterson of Ipswich with an 88.
