Kansas man leads officers on car chase

Posted: Wednesday, Dec 5th, 2012

ALPENA – A pursuit of a Kansas man ended in his arrest after the vehicle he was driving crashed in a field west of Alpena on Monday, authorities said.

Personnel from five counties and the Highway Patrol were involved in the chase.

Jerauld County Sheriff Jason Weber initiated the pursuit at about 9:30 a.m. after a report that a person driving a North Dakota-plated pickup had taken diesel fuel from a farm yard.

The pursuit ended eight miles west of Alpena in a field when the driver of the truck crashed the 2013 Chevrolet Duramaax into a creek.

The driver, Charles Leroy Beeney Jr., 47, of Lansing, Kan., was taken into custody without further incident. Beeney has felony warrants from Kansas.

The sheriff’s office is continuing the investigation. Assisting in the pursuit were personnel from sheriff’s offices in Sanborn, Buffalo, Beadle and Hand County, as well as the Highway Patrol.
