Bug professor visits Iroquois

Dr. L. Brian Patrick, biology professor at Dakota Wesleyan University, describes the differences between insects and spiders to the second grade class at Iroquois Elementary School. IROQUOIS — Dr. L. Brian Patrick, biology professor from Dakota Wesleyan University, visited the Iroquois School recently.

He spoke to the second graders about arachnids and his research with spiders. In recent years, he has discovered several new species of spiders in South Dakota. Patrick brought along specimens of insects and spiders as well as a live scorpion and Rosie, the 2-year-old tarantula. Mary Wienbar, teacher, and the children had an opportunity to hold Rosie.

Patrick also spoke to the sophomore and junior biology classes.
