Drive with caution around construction zones in town

Posted: Friday, May 10th, 2013

HURON — Warmer temperatures took their time arriving this spring, but they’re here now and it means drivers need to take extra care around a number of construction zones in Huron.

Ongoing city projects include sewer main lining on Dakota Avenue North, between 15th and 10th streets. Intersections may be partially blocked at times.

Manhole lining work is happening on Beach Avenue Southeast, between Sixth and 13th streets. Again, intersections may be partially blocked temporarily.

Storm sewer inlets are going in at 24th Street and McDonald Drive.

Workers are doing concrete replacement on Simmons Avenue Southeast, between 15th and 18th streets. Equipment will make travel in this area difficult.

A crew was due to arrive this week to paint the new northwest Huron water tower.

State projects have also gotten under way.

Concrete is being removed on Highway 37 for one mile north beginning at 15th Street, also known as the airport road.

Traffic has been moved to the west side and there is an 11-foot width restriction.

On Highway 14 through Huron, a crew is sawing relief joints and installing storm sewer. There is head- to-head traffic between Lincoln and Dakota avenues, and a 16-foot width restriction.

A crew is milling asphalt on Highway 14 from one mile west of the Broadland Road to just south of Wolsey. There is a 16-foot width restriction and a pilot car.

Highway 28 is closed between the James River and Highway 37, and from Highway 37 to the east three miles.
