HURON — Huron Tiger’s Homecoming may resemble more of a tropical retreat this year, but don’t expect the Hawaiian mindset to interfere with the student body’s competitive nature.
The theme, “Gone Coastal, Riding the Tide to Victory,” was chosen by the HHS Student Council amongst submissions on the group’s Facebook page.
Homecoming will begin today with students at Huron Senior High School dressed in their finest plundering attire for “Pirate Day.”
“We will also decorate our hallway in conjunction with the theme,” said Student Council President, senior Maddy Klein.
Homecoming activities will continue through Thursday, which the student body has coined as “Hawaiian Beach Day.”
“Student Council members will be wearing grass skirts and leis,” said Klein, who has high hopes that this year’s student body will rekindle school spirit, which has been lackluster in previous years.
“In past years our school spirit hasn’t been great but it has been looking better based on the turn out for recent activities,” said Klein.
Current and alumni HHS students are urged to attend Thursday night’s volleyball game and Friday night’s football game, both of which are free admission thanks to the student council, encouraging everyone to attend the festivities. “I hope for class unity as well as school unity and for people to be proud they came from Huron High School,” said Klein.
After Thursday night’s game will be the annual royalty coronation in which Homecoming King and Queen will be announced. On Friday the “Battle of the Classes” will begin where students compete against one another for bragging rights, especially in the Tug-O-War competition. Once the scores have been settled, students will be treated to their fellow classmates’ musical talents during the jam session at lunch. The Homecoming Parade, which averages 75-100 floats each year, will start at 2:00 p.m. Those who have yet to submit a float entry may still do so by contacting the Huron High School front office.
The community is then invited to a tailgate party, hosted by the Huron Music Parents, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Huron Tiger Stadium. The menu includes hot ham and cheese sandwiches, cookies, and pop or water. All proceeds will benefit the HMP.
The Huron Tiger football team will take to the field at 7:30 p.m., no admission fee required. Finally, students are invited to attend the homecoming dance, which is hosted by the Student Council, culminating the festivities. For the complete article see the 09-04-2013 issue.
