Sen. White to seek re-election

HURON — Sen. Jim White, R-Huron, has announced he is a candidate for re-election from District 22.

For the past four years, he has served as a member of the Appropriations Committee, two as a representative and the last two as a senator.

“This committee has the monetary control of our state Legislature,” he said. “Any bill that has a fiscal impact on our state budget must be addressed by this committee.”

White is a former teacher, retired banker and former small business owner. He has served on development corporation boards in the towns he and his family have lived in.

He said his service on the Appropriations Committee since he was first elected to the Legislature has been advantageous to District 22 in matters affecting local issues, such as funding for State Fair maintenance and repairs, and formatting ongoing funding for the English as a second Language (ESL) bill.

It has also been important to the financial affairs of the entire state, he said.

White is pledging to continue to focus on the merits of education and the South Dakota business climate.

“I will rely on my experience to promote and develop common sense solutions,” he said.
