HURON — William Robert Lyon, 90, of Huron, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at St Mary’s Healthcare Center in Pierre.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
William Robert Lyon was born to John and Ida (Speak) Lyon Oct. 17, 1922, at Viele, Iowa. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged in 1946.
He married Alice Zeeck May 1, 1946, at Huron. They farmed south of Huron for 15 years. They moved to town and he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation until he retired from the Department of Energy in January 1985 after 31 years of government service.
He belonged to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed music and playing the guitar, wood carving, fishing and camping.
He is survived by three children, Bruce (Darla) of Pierre, Lorna (Randy) Kolash of Bellevue, Idaho, and Jane (Kirk) Goodwin of Rapid City; a sister-in-law, Arlene Schroder of Faribault, Minn.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his siblings.
