CHAMBERLAIN — Donald Middletent, 70, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at the Sanford Mid Dakota Care Center in Chamberlain.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church with Mother Liz Powers and Father Kim Fonder officiating. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, both at Fort Thompson. A wake will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Donald L. Middletent was born May 29, 1942, to Ernest Sr. and Adeline (Red Day) Middletent in the Big Bend District of the Crow Creek Reservation, where he attended elementary school. They moved to Fort Thompson and he attended Gann Valley High School. He obtained his general equivalency diploma and attended vocational school to be a heavy equipment operator. He married Beverly Scott. He worked in the Eagle Butte area in construction. He was a lifetime member of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. He loved to ride horses and tell jokes.
He is survived by three children, Donald Middletent Jr. of Eagle Butte, Madeline Scott of California and Winona Pomani of Pierre; three brothers, Ernest, David and Winifred, all of Fort Thompson; a sister, Caroline Middletent of Fort Thompson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers; and four sisters.
