Irving Stolen, 83, of rural Wessington Springs

WESSINGTON SPRINGS ó Irving Stolen, 83, of rural Wessington Springs, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Weskota Manor/Avera Health.

The funeral will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviorís Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Edzards officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wessington Springs. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Irving George Stolen was born at Wessington Springs May 3, 1929, to Martin and Emma (Ingaborg) Stolen. He attended two years of high school at Wessington Springs. After his father died, the family moved to Washington and he graduated from Arlington (Wash.) High School.

He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. He returned to Wessington Springs and attended Huron College. He started farming with his brother in 1953. He married Vivian Syvertson in 1956. They farmed in Jerauld County. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, served on the Crow Lake Township Board, Horizon Health Care Board and was a church trustee.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Linda (Neal) Bartel of rural Wessington Springs; two sons, Mike (Pam) of Sioux Falls and Jim (Bonnie) of Scottsbluff, Neb.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Fjarlie of Port Angeles, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Nagle of Warner.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pam Stolen; two brothers, Maurice and Harold; and a sister, Hannah Baty.
