ORIENT — Lloyd Payne, 92, of Orient, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with the Rev. Tammy Craker officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, Orient, with military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Lloyd Edwin Payne was born June 23, 1920, in Faulk County to Clinton and Katharine (Waldner) Payne. He attended grade school at Onaka and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1939. In August 1944 he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed at Camp Crowder, Mo., and spent time briefly in the Hawaiian and Philippine islands and also did a short tour in Japan. He was honorably discharged in August 1946. In 1950 he received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from SDSU at Brookings. He went to work for the Boeing Company in Wichita, Kan., from 1952 to 1968. At that time he returned to the Payne Family Farm in Spring Township near Orient. He enjoyed farm work. He was a member of the Audubon Society and enjoyed time reading, storytelling and taking photographs.
He is survived by cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alma (Glen) Bowman; and a brother, Harold (Betty) Payne.
