WOONSOCKET — Marion A. Larson, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell following a long battle with cancer.
The funeral will be Friday at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket with the Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery at Woonsocket. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Marion A. Larson was born July 1, 1946, to Arthur and Leona (Forbes) Larson on the Larson farm homestead in Sanborn County. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith April 8, 1960. He graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1965. He enlisted in the Navy Seabees and served two tours in Vietnam.
On Nov. 18, 1967, he married Susan Yakel of Klemme, Iowa. He attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis where he received his computer training. He worked for Sanitary Farm Dairies in St. Paul, Minn., and National Cash Register in Rochester, Minn., as a computer programmer from 1970 to 1975. They farmed at Woonsocket until moving to town in 1996. He worked with Randy Weber in the mobile home repair business until learning of his cancer in 2001. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and served as council president for several years. He was a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and served as chairman for many years. He enjoyed cooking, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Amy and Tracy (Corey) Bird of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; four brothers, Robert, Jerry, Dan and Alan; and a sister, Linda Verba.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin; a son, Troy; a son-in-law, Rich Miller; his parents-in-law, Roland and Luella Yakel; and a sister-in-law, Julie Nau.For the complete article see the 01-09-2013 issue.
