HURON — Roland J. “Ron” Glaser, 70, of Huron, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, as the result of a motor vehicle accident near Forestburg, South Dakota. His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Andrew Crandall officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Kuhler Funeral Home with his family present from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Visit www.kuhlerfuneralhome.com.
Roland “Ron” J. Glaser was born Jan. 18, 1942, to Gerhardt “Jerry” and Gladys (Messmer) Glaser at LaMoure, N.D. He graduated from the eighth grade and then joined the workforce in LaMoure. In 1959, at the age of 17, Ron joined the United States Navy during peacetime and was stationed in Japan. After serving almost two years in the Navy, he was discharged after incurring a disabling injury.
Throughout his life Ron was married and divorced five times. He worked as a cook, farm laborer, over the road truck driver and as a general carpenter/handyman. Ron lived all over the United States and liked to tell stories to his grandchildren about the experiences he had being in 49 of the 50 states. He moved to Huron in 2005 and spent the last years of his life enjoying spending time with his daughter, helping his son-in-law with projects, seeing his grandchildren, tinkering on vehicles, gardening and doing handyman things. He enjoyed going to the grandchildren’s school and sporting events and never missed an opportunity to brag about them.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Todd Glaser.
He is survived by his children, DeAnn Speicher of Dickinson, N.D., Juanita Propst (Lyndon) of Goodwin, Gail (Brian) Lichty of Huron, Peggy (Jerry Reis) Stuchl of Sioux Falls and Ronald Glaser of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Brandon Speicher of Dickinson, N.D., Megan Kienow (Cameron Hogle) of Aberdeen, Ashley Kienow (Clint Frankfurth) of Iroquois, Brianna, Jeclyn and Dylan Lichty of Huron, Melissa Propst of Volga, Shantel Propst of Goodwin, Taylor and Kaden Stuchl of Sioux Falls, and Andrew, Matthew and Christopher Glaser of North Dakota; great-grandchildren, Landon Kienow, Collyn Hogle and Zoey Hogle all of Aberdeen; and stepgreat-grandson, Caydan Frankfurth of Huron. Ron is also survived by his brother, Richard (Hope) Glaser of St. Paul, Minn; sisters, Rose Grams of Stacy, Minn., Luci (Daryl Krous) Kresse of Sibley, N.D., and Linda Glaser of Bismarck, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
