MESA, Ariz. — Harold William Schimelpfenig, 82, of Mesa and Sioux Falls, and formerly of Huron, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Hospice of Arizona, Greenfield House, after suffering a massive stroke New Years Eve.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa. A memorial service in Sioux Falls will be held at a later date.
Harold William Schimelpfenig was born Nov. 19, 1930, to Hilbert and Anna (Koehler) Schimelpfenig on the family farm at Norwood, Minn.
He was a carpenter all his life; enjoying his woodshop. He married Jeanette Tschetter nee Walter Jan. 18, 1999, at Mesa. They spent their summers in Sioux Falls and winters in Mesa.
He is survived by his wife; five stepchildren, Randy (Catherine) Tschetter of Amherst, Va., Jory (Bonnie Blackman) Tschetter of Evergreen, Colo., Jeanine (Doug) Greenwood of Sioux Falls, Cindy Tschetter of Topeka, Kan., and Brett (Carrie) Tschetter of Pierre; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Margaret Darula, Lois (Gorden) Bensen, Gerald (Genelle) and Jean (Chuck) McBride; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Christensen and Carol Schimelpfenig; a brother, Roy; and a stepson, Kevin Tschetter.
