Donna Marie Weiss, 55, of Volga, and formerly of Huron, Estelline and De Smet

VOLGA — Donna Marie Weiss, 55, of Volga, and formerly of Huron, Estelline and De Smet, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at her home in Volga while under the care of hospice after years of battling cancer.

A memorial will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Christian and Missionary Church in De Smet.

Donna Marie Bitner was born Nov. 21, 1957, to Leslie and Blanche (Brown) Bitner in Lake Preston. She was raised on a sheep farm southeast of De Smet with plenty of horses. In 1976, she graduated from De Smet High School.

On Nov. 23, 1977, she married Leroy Weiss. She worked at various jobs, but her favorite was as a home care aide in Huron.

She is survived by a son, Duane, of Brookings; her siblings, Gail (Gary) Volk of Somerset, Colo., Gloria Zeitler of Rapid City, Bonnie (Paul) Chavez of Show Low, Ariz., and Loren (Kathy) Bitner of Dell Rapids; a special friend, Charles Gamber; her former husband, Leroy Weiss; and many aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents
