O’NEILL, Neb. — Katherine (Zilverberg) Buckner, 68, of O’Neill, Neb., and formerly of Highmore, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Her memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Harrold Auditorium in Harrold. Burial will follow at the Highmore Cemetery. A second memorial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in O’Neill.
Katherine Ann Kirby was born May 7, 1944, in Renton, Wash., to Harry and Grace Katherine (Stimson) Kirby. She graduated from Highmore High School.
She married Melvin Carroll in August 1965. She did waitress work at Driftwood Café in Miller, and farmed south of Harrold for 23 years. She moved to Nebraska. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, traveling, quilting and sewing. She was a faithful member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall.
She is survived by siblings, Janet (Smokey) Kopecky, Orient; Mary Jo (Nicholas) Nemec, Holabird; and Shorty (Susan) Zilverberg, Highmore; children, Daniel (Lana) Carroll, Harrold; Donald Carroll, Harrold; and Duaine (Shelley) Carroll, Pierre; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Moyne Kirby; her parents, Mac and Katherine Zilverberg; two brothers, Bill and Thomas; and her grandparents.
