ST. LAWRENCE — Evelyn (Carter) Fanning, 85, of St. Lawrence, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Avera Hand County Hospital in Miller. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Lawrence Community Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence. Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Evelyn Carter was born Feb. 28, 1927 at St. Lawrence to James Austin Aaron and Maude Novella (Key) Carter. She graduated in 1945 and earned her teaching certificate at Aberdeen Normal School.
She married Fred Fanning on Dec. 30, 1947.
She is survived by three sons, Denny (Suzette) of Elk Point, Fred (Faris Hattab) of Seattle, Wash., and John (Kim) Fanning of St. Lawrence; two daughters, Ruby Fanning (Dennis Aldinger) and Jane (Larry) Russell, both of Rapid City; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and eight siblings, Leone Liebers of Ladysmith, Wis.; Dorothy Marshall of Miller; Lois Harris of Jonesville, N.C.; Jimmie Carter of Venice, Fla.; Rachel Rediger of Mesa, Ariz.; Roger (Aloa) Carter of McLeansville, N.C.; Dixie (Al) Young, Edmonds, Wash.; and Dale (Suzanne) Carter of Montrose, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; daughter, Margaret “Jo” Fechner; sister, Viola Webber; and infant sister, Virginia Pearl.
