Bernice Renshaw, 95, of Maple Plain, Minn., and formerly of Huron

HURON —   Bernice Renshaw, 95, of Maple Plain, Minn., formerly of Huron, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Haven Homes Nursing Home in Maple Plain. Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Friday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Bernice Bertha Ida Renshaw, daughter of Fred and Minnie (Ziegelmann) Passenheim, was born in Garfield, Minn., on Oct. 18, 1917. Bernice and her family moved to Huron when she was 3 years old. She attended Wilson Grade School and Huron Junior High School.

    Bernice married Archie Renshaw on her birthday, Oct. 18, 1936. They made their home on a farm in rural Huron. Archie and Bernice moved to the Panama Canal where Archie worked for the U.S. Government. They returned to Huron in December 1945.

    She was a clerk at a grocery store in Huron; operated a nursery at her home for 15 years; and worked for Raven Industries as a seamstress.

    She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron, where she taught Sunday school and was a choir member for over 20 years. Bernice was a hospital volunteer for over 18 years, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Choir.

    She spent the winter of 2010 with her son in the Minneapolis area. In May of 2011, she returned to Huron and moved to an apartment next to her sister, Fern Klassen, at the Huron Courtyard Apartments. In May of 2012 she became a resident at SunQuest  Healthcare Center. In July 2012, she was transferred to Haven Homes of Maple Plain, Minn.
    She is survived by her son, Frank (Madaline) Renshaw of Plymouth, Minn.; two grandchildren, Kristin (Pat) Ann Renshaw Eichers of Independence, Minn., and Steven (Manel) James Renshaw of Shoreview, Minn.; five great-grandchildren, Alexander Renshaw and Erin Renshaw, both of Shoreview, Minn., and Madaline Eichers, Martin Eichers, and Christian Eichers, all of Independence, Minn.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Archie, in 1989.
