DE SMET— Pauline Currier, 73, of De Smet and formerly of Bancroft, died Wednesday, March 13 at the Good Samaritan Center in De Smet after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16 at the United Methodist Church in Iroquois at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kris Larson officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Pauline was born in Manhattan, New York on April 14, 1939. She graduated from Bancroft High School in 1957.
She married Kenneth Currier on Oct. 20, 1957, in El Paso, Texas. She lived in the Bancroft community most of her life until moving to De Smet in 2011. She was a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church and Ladies Aid, and served on the Bancroft city council. She loved working with children in her daycare.
Pauline is survived by her husband, Kenneth; one son, Dale (Wendy) Currier of De Smet; two daughters, Gayle (Mark) Larson of Iroquois and Lori (Mike) Baye of Dell Rapids; one daughter-in-law, Marilee (Ron) Rounds of Cavour; fourteen grandchildren, Becky Currier and Matt (Jesse) Currier, Cashayne Larson(Chad Bogh), Shalace (Jason) Bell, Shad Larson (Lacey Eckmann), Jessie Currier and fiancé Chelsea Hansen, Danielle Currier, Stuart Rounds, Kati Rounds, Tasha (Sheldon) Davis, Kip Rounds (Kelsey Ahlers), Travis Rounds, and Taylor Brown; ten great-grandchildren, Audi, Kenna, Tegan, Jayden, Tessah, Ashtyn, Haylah, Taelyn, Gracie, and Easton; and siblings, William Waeckerle, Akaska, Tim Waeckerle, Placerville, Calif., John Waeckerle and Steven Waeckerle, both of Box Elder, Sharon Schafer, Schererville, Ind., Carolyn (David) McGriff, Crown Point, Ind., Eileen (Doug) Hamm, Hills City, Joan Boesen, Surprise, Ariz., Mae Coston, Milford, Ohio, Sylvia King, Manchester, N.Y., and Vivian Lai Chin, Kissimmee, Fla.
Pauline is preceded in death by Leo and Leola Waeckerle, a son Daniel Currier, a sister JoAnn, and a grandson, Trenton Rounds.
