HURON — Carol “C.H.” Erling, 92, of Huron, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at his home in Huron. His Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Visit www.welterfuneralhome.com.
Carol “C.H.” Erling was born to Ernest F. and Ena (Kahler) Erling on Dec. 22, 1920, in Rutland. He graduated from Raymond High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged. He moved to Huron in 1946.
He married Jacque Depner on Nov. 8, 1954. Jacque died on July 13, 2000. He later married Linda Quam Lyerla on Aug. 18, 2010 in Huron. He owned and operated the Raymond Oil Company for 67 years.
He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. He was also a member of the American Legion William Reaves Post # 7, and the VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776. He was a member of the South Dakota LP Gas Association and the Independent Oilmen’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Huron; sister, Joan (Robert) Klar of Fall Brook, Calif.; one grandson, two step-granddaughters, five step-great-grandchildren, a step-great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jacque; son, E.H. “Butch” Erling; step-son, Michael; step-daughter, Bridgette Cook; brother, Jean Erling; and two granddaughters.For the complete article see the 03-19-2013 issue.
