ST. LAWRENCE — Lester Becker, 86, of St. Lawrence, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Lawrence Community Church with the Rev. Scot Tutt officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church. Memorials can be sent to St. Lawrence Community Church.
Lester Kenneth Becker was born Aug. 22, 1926, to John and Freida (Hardie) Becker on the family farm south of Rockham. He graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1944.
On May 12, 1948, he married Verna Van Zee. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Community Church where he served as a board member. He served on the Hand County Memorial Hospital board for 23 years, was a county committee member, and served on the ASCS board for nine years. He also served as a school and township board member and 4-H leader for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Cheryl (Dwane) Pease of Pierre, Dianne (Steve) Shaykett of Hartford, and Debra (Tim) Pullman of Miller; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Elvina (Roger) Engle of New Hope, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Leona (Blondie) Becker and Lucy Becker, both of Redfield; and a brother-in-law, Robert Schmidt of Redfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Evelyn, Lucillia, Abby and Irene Schmidt; and three brothers, Marvin, Milton and Marlin.
