Carl Bruns, 94, of Willow Lake

WILLOW LAKE Carl Bruns, 94, of Willow Lake, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013, in the Avera DeSmet Memorial Hospital at DeSmet.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Willow Lake and continued at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services were held yesterday in the Congregational United Church of Christ at Willow Lake with the Rev. Rosanne Anderson officiating. He was buried with full military honors provided by the Johnny-Fonken American Legion Post 113 of Willow Lake and the South Dakota Army National Honor Guard followed in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake.

Carl Michel Bruns was born on Jan. 31, 1919, in Rosedale Township to Michel and Dora (Waldow) Bruns.

He married Louise Reitz on Jan. 13, 1946, in Michigan. He farmed, worked for Jim Brekke in hardware, drove a school bus for Willow Lake and worked in the plumbing and heating/cooling business.

He was a member of the United Congregational Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Margaret (Orvan) McPeek; and brothers-in-law, Henry Reitz and Ellsworth Bratland.

He is survived by his children, Susan (Roger) Batien of Watertown, Cindy (Marlin) Warkenthien of Willow Lake and Jeff Bruns of League City, Texas; sister, Grace Bratland; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
