DEMING, N.M. — Timothy Michael O’Neill, 75, a lifelong resident of Deming, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. That day, June 28, would have been his wife Cookie’s 71st birthday.
Visitation will begin Thursday afternoon, July 4, at 4 p.m. at Baca’s Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 p.m., led by Dr. Gilbert Arizaga. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Machado officiating. Cremation will follow, and inurnment will take place at a later date.
Timothy Michael O’Neill was born June 3, 1938, in Alton, Illinois to Paul and Nancy O’Neill, and came to Deming in September of that same year. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, and, upon his return, earned his Pharmacy degree. Tim eventually purchased Fred Seely Drugs and owned and operated it from 1974 to 1986. After 1986, Tim continued to work at local drug stores and later retired from the Kmart Pharmacy.
He was a member of the Deming Lions Club, American Motorcycle Association, New Mexico Pharmaceutical Association, of which he was President 1983 to 1984, and the National Rifle Association. He served on the Deming City Council from 1978 to 2002 and was on the Board of Directors of Alma Feil Hospice.
He is survived by his children, Theresa Lewis (Dan) of Artesia, N.M., Kelly O’Neill (Carmen) of Huron, Tim O’Neill (Lauren) of Gardnerville, Nev.; two brothers, Barney O’Neill of Winter Haven, Fla., P.J. O’Neill of Dunnellon, Fla.; five grandchildren, Nick O’Neill (Ashley), Hannah, Kelly B., Jaime and Jesse O’Neill; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Colin O’Neill; numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful canine companion, Noel. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Judith “Cookie” O’Neill, two sisters, Nancy Ann Nunn and Susie Kennedy, and a brother, Johnny O’Neill.
Pallbearers will be Tim, Kelly, Nick and Kelly B. O’Neill, Dan Lewis, Greg Conley, Jimmy Herrera and John Teran.
