DE SMET — Frances Cundy, 75, of De Smet, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Good Samaritan Center in De Smet.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, De Smet, with the Rev. Greg Frankman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery, De Smet.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Osthus Funeral Home, De Smet.
Frances Joyce Ryland was born April 23, 1938, to Harold and Agnes (Bunker) Ryland at De Smet. She attended school at De Smet and graduated from De Smet High School in 1956.
She married Deloyce (Doy) Cundy on Sept. 25, 1956. She was a nursing assistant at De Smet Memorial Hospital and the De Smet Good Samaritan Center. During her employement with the Good Samaritan Center, she received the Millie Award from the South Dakota Healthcare Association, given in recognition of certified nursing assistants who provide outstanding care. She enjoyed dancing and snowmobiling.
She is survived by her children, MonaRae (Leslie) Palmlund of De Smet, and Rod (Denise) Cundy of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three sisters, Marilyn Cromwell of Pierre, Dianne (Clyde) Rasmussen of Rapid City, and Judy (Darrell) Finstad of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson; two brothers, Jim Ryland and Bob Ryland; and two nephews and a niece.For the complete article see the 08-25-2013 issue.
