HURON — Ruth Urban, 89, of Huron, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the SunQuest Health Care Center.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the First Assembly of God with the Revs. Kory Kleinsasser and Charles Howard officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Kuhler Funeral Home with her family present from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening. Ruth Miedema was born March 17, 1924, to Fred and Elizabeth (Boomsma) Miedema in Huron. She started her education at Broadland School, then attended Hitchcock High School for three years and graduated from Huron High School.
On June 10, 1943, Ruth married Harold Urban in Huron. Together they farmed, milked cows, raised sheep and chickens and nursed lambs. Ruth also drove school bus for the Huron School District for 18 years. Ruth enjoyed spending time outdoors, gardening, listening to gospel music and playing the piano.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1997; one daughter, Nancy Urban; one son, Jerry Urban; two brothers, Andrew (Lois) Miedema and James (Marlene) Miedema; one sister, in infancy; two grandsons, Douglas Tschetter and Jeff Tschetter; one granddaughter, Kerry Kleinsasser; and one great-grandson.
Grateful for having shared in her life are two daughters, Carol (Melnor) Tschetter of Huron and Elaine (Ron) Kleinsasser of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Sandra (Terry) Rothe, Sharyl (Jim) Lamoreux, Kit (Greg) Gleason, Kory (Ann) Kleinsasser, Kelby (Jill) Kleinsasser and Kara (Fanuel) Banda; 16 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Sidney (Colleen) Miedema of Texas.
