RAPID CITY — Alvin Lappe, 84, of Rapid City, formerly of Harrold, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Harrold with the Rev. Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Burial will follow at Medicine Hill Cemetery, Harrold. Visitation and a prayer service took place Thursday at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore.
Alvin Russell Lappe was born to Evaline (Hoefer) and August Lappe on June 20, 1929 in Sully County. He attended South Lake Country School.
He married Joan Salathe on Nov. 11, 1951, in Harrold. He lived, farmed, ranched and raised his family his entire life in Sully County.
He attended Harrold United Methodist Church and South Maple United Methodist Church in Rapid City. He was a member of Flying Farmers and the South Dakota Stockgrowers. He enjoyed playing cards and was the crafter of game boards for Fast Track.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; two daughters, Shirley (Alan) Parks of Newcastle, Wyo. and Gail (Jim) Schaefer, Rapid City; two sons, Jim (Peggy) Lappe of Pierre and Brad (Jolene) Lappe of Rapid City; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, John, Ambrose, Bert, and Harlan.
