SIOUX FALLS — Charles Schultz, 86, of Sioux Falls, and formerly of Huron, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, in Sioux Falls.
His funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Welter Funeral Home with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday one hour prior to the service.
Charles John Schultz, son of Louis and Leona (Reinartz) Schultz, was born on Dec. 31, 1927, in Huron. He grew up in Huron and attended Huron High School. He then enlisted and served in the Navy. After his honorable discharge he returned to Huron.
On Oct. 25, 1947, he married Betty Mae Johnson in Huron. He started his career with Armour and Company, working in one of the meat departments. He later became a USDA meat inspector. His job as an inspector took him to several cities. In 1962, they moved to Sioux Falls for two years, then Luverne, Minn., for one year, Billings, Mont.. Watertown, Harrisburg for 7 years and finally the Sioux Falls area for the last two years. The last several years of his career he was a USDA troubleshooter inspector and traveled to various Armour locations as needed.
When Charles lived in Huron, he was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by two sons, Mike (Geri) Schultz of Brandon and Rick (Rhonda) Schultz of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don (Lorraine) Schultz of Portland, Ore., and Bill (Carol) Schultz of Fort Worth, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty, on May 2, 2009; one daughter, Kay Smith; one son-in-law, Michael Smith; and two grandsons.
