HURON — Jack B. Dawson, 90, of Huron, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the SunQuest HealthCare Center. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Holland officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Jack Barney Dawson was born on Dec. 24, 1923, in Elma, Washington, to Barney and Stella (Dilleshaw) Dawson. He graduated from Elma High School. He served in the Navy during WWII.
On Aug. 26, 1947, he married Irma K. Hofer in Elma, Washington. In 1948 they moved to Alpena, operated a café and later worked for Pete Lund. He also worked for Old Home Bread as a route salesman for the Metz Baking Company.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Kiwanis Club, the Huron V.F.W., American Legion, the Elks, the Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the South Dakota Industrial Board. He also worked with the South Dakota State Fair as a bread judge and with the bread program for a number of years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma; and grandson-in-law, Mike Harden.
He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Dawson, of Omaha, Neb.; one granddaughter, Robin Harden, of Omaha, Neb.; one great-granddaughter, Heather Harden of Omaha, Neb.; and one sister, Peggy Dawson M.M., of Maryknoll, New York.
