HURON — Marie Kirsch, 98, of Huron, died on Sunday at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery in Woonsocket. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Marie Burkel was born to John and Anna (Hoffmann) Burkel on Dec. 27, 1915, in White Lake. She attended school in Woonsocket.
She married Lawrence Kirsch on Oct. 19, 1940, in Woonsocket. They farmed near Woonsocket.
She was a member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket and the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. She was a member of the St. Francis Circle and the Catholic Daughters in Woonsocket and a volunteer at the St. Francis Shop in Huron. Marie enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidery and baking.
She is survived by her two sons, Gerald Kirsch of Huron and David (Beth) Kirsch of Gillette, Wyo.; four daughters, Marcella (Jim) Rogers of Crooks, Marcelene (Delbert) Spencer of Huron, Ramona (Glenn) Naser of Wessington Springs and Linda (Melvin) Moeding of Huron; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Strelow of Milwaukee, Wis.; sister-in-law, Lorene Kirsch of Bismark, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1983; infant son, Clarence Kirsch; great-great-granddaughter; brother, Nick Burkel; two sisters, Loretta Reimer and Martha Kirsch; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
