HURON — James Dunbar, 85, of Huron, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Andrew Crandall officiating. Military honors will be given by the Huron Veterans Council. A private family burial will be held at the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
James Dixon Dunbar was born on Oct. 3, 1928, to O.D. and Ella (Black) Dunbar in Huron. He graduated from Huron High School in 1946, and later from Dunwoody Technical Institute.
He served in the Army in Japan after World War II and was an electrical contractor and electrical inspector.
On March 27, 1949, he married Ilene Rundquist in Huron.
He enjoyed trapshooting, pheasant hunting and golf. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the NRA, VFW, Huron Masonic Lodge, and the Huron Area Antique Power Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Ilene who died May 5, 2012; and two sisters, Jean and Betty.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Susanna Dunbar of McKinney, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Mark Kool of Fairfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothea McGhee of Walnut Creek, Calif.
