Donald Scheibe, age 87, of Arlington, Texas and formerly of Huron

ARLINGTON, Texas — Donald Scheibe, age 87, of Arlington, Texas and formerly of Huron, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Arlington, Texas. 

His funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 1st, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kelly Smith officiating.  Entombment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum.   Military honors will be conducted by the Huron Veterans Council.   Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 30th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening. Memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church charities-canine comfort dogs and the Alzheimer’s Association. 

Donald Scheibe was born May 11, 1927, to Otto and Helen (Meyer) Scheibe in Wolsey.  He graduated from Wolsey High School in 1943. Donald served in the Army in Korea at the end of WWll.  He also attended South Dakota State University in Brookings.

Donald worked for the Standard Oil Company and for Northwestern Public Service Company as an Auditor and as a Purchasing Agent.

On August 12, 1951, Donald married Alice Licht of Wolsey.  They moved to Huron in 1953.  Their daughter, Jill, was born July 18, 1955, and son, Murray, was born May 31, 1958.

Donald was an active member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church serving on many different boards, and teaching Sunday School and Bible Classes.  Donald also loved the many different flowers that he had in his yard.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents; three brothers, Marvin, Mel, and Ron Scheibe; and one sister, Irene Ctvrtnik.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his daughter, Jill and her husband, Patrick of Pierre; his son, Murray and his wife, Veronica of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Mark and his wife, Amy Burger of Sioux Falls and Sarah Burger of Pierre; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Avery Burger of Sioux Falls.
