ONIDA ó Alice Marie Sandmeier was born Feb. 19, 1938, in Onida. She was the fourth child of Walter and Inez (Burger) Fangerís six children. She went to Hilton Country school in Sully County until the family moved to Miller.
Alice went to high school in Miller and was an accomplished piano player in the high school band and was also a cheerleader. She graduated from Miller High School in 1956.
Alice the went to the National School of Business in Rapid City and worked her way through school at Buick Industries.
On March 5th of 1958 Alice and Richard Sandmeier were married in the Methodist Church. Richard was working for Boeing Air Planes and was transferred to Slidell, La. where they resided for three years. He was then transferred to Denver, Colo. where Alice lived the rest of her life.
Alice loved to play cards, pinochle, bridge, whist and bowl. She loved music, and with her friend Ralph, went to many dancing contests and often won.
Alice never forgot her South Dakota friends and relatives and every year until 2009 made a trip back to Miller.
Alice had a great outgoing personality. She was a retiree from Jefferson County Schools in Colo. She embraced life spending most of her time with family and friends.
Alice passed away peacefully in her home on May 28, 2014, at the age of 76.
Those who will miss her the most are her beloved children, sons, Terry Sandmeier, Tim (Sharon) Sandmeier, Todd (Vickie) Sandmeier and daughter, Tina Clark; grandson, Josh (Holly) Sandmeier; sisters, Della (Duane) Wilken of Huron and Bessie (Rollie) Aman of Aberdeen; her brother Warren (Diane) Fanger of West Jordan, Utah; her special friend and dance partner, Ralph; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many cousins from Blunt, South Dakota.
Those who have gone before her are her parents; her grandson, Sammy Sandmeier; her husband, Richard; her brother, Walter; and her sister, Rose Forman.
