New Mexico rider wins final night of CBR Bull Bash

Scotty Knapp of Albquerque, N.M., was the lone rider to record a qualified ride in the short round to claim the top spot Thursday during the second night of the Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair.

The Huron Tiger girls' tennis team collected its first victory of the season Thursday at a triangular meet in Madison.
The Tigers emerged with a split, defeating Madison 6-3 and suffering an 8-1 setback against Brookings.

Miller wins against Sully Buttes in opener

MILLER -- The Miller Lady Rustlers opened their 2010 volleyball season with a 3-0 over Sully Buttes Thursday night.
The Lady Rustlers won the three games, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15.
Mallory Fischer had four aces and Tierney Mullaney had three for Miller. Kelsey Hunter was credited with nine kills, Dana Fanning had five and Alexis Watts four.

JVC sweeps Pirates in season opener

James Valley's veteran lineup was too much for Highmore-Harrold as the Lady Vikings registered a 3-0 win in 281 Conference volleyball action at the JVC gymnasium Tuesday night.
The Lady Vikings won the three games, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-16.

TULARE -- The Redfield-Doland Pheasants opened their girls' volleyball season with a 3-1 win over Hitchcock-Tulare here Tuesday night.
The Pheasants lost the first match, 25-23, but came back to win three in a row, 25-23, 25-18 and 26-24.

The Huron girls' tennis team collected its first individual victory of the season on Saturday during the Brookings Jamboree.
Halli Halbkat broke the winless string for the Tigers with an 8-3 victory against Leslie Henderson of Yankton.
The victory came in one of the young team's best matches of the season thus far, according to coach Mike Knigge.

FAULKTON, The Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots opened defense of their state championship of a year ago by whipping the Faulkton Trojans, 36-6 here Friday night.
The Patriots, who finished the 2009 season with a perfect 12-0 record, scored first when Joey Mitchell hit Jared Barrie on an 11-yard pass in the opening period. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

Ten youths from the Korean karate program at the Nordby Center for Recreation successfully tested for their next belt in Tang Soo Do and Tae Kwon Do.

Warner inks win against Warbirds

WOLSEY -- The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds dropped their season opener Friday night 32-20 to Warner.

MADISON -- The Huron Tigers had a pair of runners record top-10 finishes during the John Collignon Invitational Cross Country Meet , which was the season-opening event on Friday.

The Huron Tiger girls' tennis team ran into a polished Aberdeen Roncalli team that swept them in varsity play.
However, the outcome, Tiger head coach Mike Knigge was pleased with the strides his young Tigers made Tuesday.

Tigers finish sixth on the links at Pierre

The Huron Tiger Golf team finished sixth at the Pierre Invite Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers shot a four-man total of 346, which was 34 shots behind Pierre, who won the meet with a total of 312.
Finishing second was Rapid City Stevens posting a score of 315, while Sturgis was third at 330 and Aberdeen was fourth at 338.

Floyd Kallenberger won the pitch card game and Carolyn Ames and Harold Skorheim teamed up to capture top honors in bridge as the 29th annual Huron Senior Games got under way Friday.
Ames and Skorheim tallied 5,620 points to win the bridge competition with Char Jones and Mary Bartel second with 4,280 points.
