Area golfers compete in Wessington Springs

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Sanborn Central-Woonsocket's Alissa Ball shot a 48 to finish third during the Wessington Springs Invite on Tuesday.

HURON -- A couple breaks here or there and the Huron boys' tennis team would have emerged with a sweep in a triangular against Brandon Valley and Madison on Tuesday at Winter Park Courts.
With the help of victories in a handful of tight matches, Brandon Valley escaped with a 6-3 win against the Tigers.

Clark-Willow Lake boys finish third in Sioux Valley Invite

VOLGA -- Noah Huber recorded victories on both the shot put and discus events to help the Clark-Willow Lake boys' track team to a third-place finish on Tuesday at the Sioux Valley Invite.
Hamlin amassed 144 points to win the boys' team title, while Sioux Valley was second at 94. The Cyclones were third with 74, followed by Lake Preston

Deuel sweeps Warbirds

HURON -- Deuel used eight runs in the sixth inning to break a scoreless battle against Wolsey-Wessington in the opening game of a spring high school baseball doubleheader on Sunday at Klock Field.
Deuel would win the opener 11-0 and collect the sweep with a 10-0 victory against the Warbirds in the second game after just five innings.

FORESTBURG -- Sanborn Central-Woonsocket standout Myah Selland announce Thursday via Twitter her plans to attend South Dakota State University.
Selland, a 6-foot-2 junior, led the Blackhawks to a third-place finish in this year's Class B State Basketball Tournament at Huron Arena.

HAYTI -- Madison won both the boys' and the girls' divisions at the Hamlin Banana Relays, held Tuesday in Hayti.
The Bulldog boys scored 216 points to easily outdistance the host Hamlin Chargers, who were second with 134. Clark-Willow Lake finished fifth with 44 points and Iroquois had four points.

PIERRE -- Huron's Katie Schoenfelder earned the lone win for the Huron track teams during the American Legion Track Meet on Friday.
Schoenfelder had a winning throw of 107-feet, 6-inches to edge Carson Haase of Brandon Valley, who had a throw of 105-1, for the top spot in the discus. Sara Carr was fifth for the Tigers at 96-3.
