MITCHELL — Two teams entered the Class B State Volleyball Tournament at the Corn Palace in Mitchell with unblemished records and after Friday’s semi-final round only one remained unbeaten.
Second-seeded Warner kept its perfect season intact with a sweep against No. 6-seeded James Valley Christian in the semifinals. The Monarchs used set scores of 25-4, 25-14 and 25-9 to push their record to 33-0.
Rachel Rogers did most of the damage for Warner, with 17 kills. Miranda Ristau and Carly Rozell added eight and seven kills, respectively. Ristau also had four block assists, while Kari Gascoigne had three assisted blocks.
Ashley Rozell recorded a team-high 36 assists for the Monarchs, while Alyssa Jung had 10 digs and Kaitlyn Boesl had seven digs.
JVC, which upset third-seeded Herreid-Selby Area in the opening round, struggled to get things going against Warner, which was the top-ranked team in the Class B poll for much of the season.
Jaclyn Loban had three kills to lead the Lady Vikings, who are now 22-7. Tara Nihart and Ariana Zuccaro each had two kills.
Zuccaro tallied a team-high 11 digs for JVC, while Betsy Nelson and Kristen Williams had six and four digs, respectively. Williams also had two block assists, while Nihart had three assists.
Warner will face Arlington, which defeated previously unbeaten and top-seeded Parker on Friday, in the championship match at 8 p.m. James Valley Christian will meet Parker for third place at 6 p.m. today.
