JVC holds on against Mount Vernon-Plankinton

HURON — James Valley Christian escaped with a 47-44 victory against Mount Vernon-Plankinton on Tuesday at the JVC gym.

Anna Ulvestad had a game-high 14 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Vikings. Hannah Loban also reached double figures with 10 points, while Tara Nihart and Jaclyn Loban added nine and eight points, respectively.

Payleen O’Day led Mount Vernon-Plankinton with 13 points, while Jordan Achterberg and Megan Bultsma finished with eight points each.

A complete boxscore from the game will run in Thursday’s paper.



De Smet 41, Deuel 34

DE SMET — Despite scoring just three points in the second quarter, the De Smet Lady Bulldogs used a strong second half to defeat Deuel 41-34 on Monday.

Taylor Schoenfelder had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead De Smet. Grayson Gruenhagen had nine points, while Rylie Osthus and Amanda Poppen each added six points. Shelace Albrecht had five steals and two assists.

Erin Engelkes and Tiara Gibson each had 13 points for Deuel. Gibson also had a team-high 15 rebounds.

HIGHMORE — Highmore-Harrold improved to 8-0 and 4-0 in the 281 Conference with a 64-21 victory against Wolsey-Wessington on Monday.

McKenzee Zilverberg had 15 points to lead three players in double figures for the Pirates. Courtney Keller had 13 points, while Rachel Houdek had 11 points. Sydney Cowan and Tyann Hamlin added nine and eight points, respectively.

Houdek also had six of Highmore-Harrold’s 26 rebounds.

Bailey Zerfoss had six points to lead the Lady War birds (1-6, 1-2). Meagan Eggleston and Brittany Bergquist each had five points. Bergquist also had six rebounds.

IROQUOIS — Lake Preston earned its second victory of the season Monday with a 43-18 win against Iroquois.

The Lady Divers, who improved to 2-5, led 15-0 after the opening quarter and 27-6 at the half.

Samantha Bradfield had 12 points to lead Lake Preston. Kristen Longville and Marly Vendrig added nine and eight points, respectively.

Allison Bich led the Lady Chiefs (0-6) with seven points, while Ashlynne Gross had six points. Haley DeJong and Amber Jacobs shared the rebounding honors with six boards each.
