Lady Patriots get past W-W

HURON — The Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots advanced to the consolation championship of the 281 Conference after defeating the Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds Monday afternoon at Huron Arena.

The Patriots jumped out to a 26-7 halftime lead by holding the patriots to just four and seven points in the first 16 minutes of play and held them below double digits in all four quarters.

Meanwhile, Molly Koester scored nine points in the first half Taylor Knippling had eight and Heather Barrie had seven in the first half to account for 24 of Hitchcock-Tulare’s 26 first half points.

Knippling went on to score a game-high 20 points including going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.

She along with Koester also pulled down a game-high six rebounds as the Lady Patriots had a 22-16 advantage in that category.

Barrie added three assists and Knippling had four steals.

Wolsey-Wessington was led by Meagan Eggleston who scored 10 points followed by Bailey Zerfoss who had six and Brittany Berquist who had four.

Berquist and Keely Mehling each grabbed three rebounds apiece to lead the Lady Warbirds.

While neither team shot “lights out” the Lady Warbirds struggled from the field making just 7-of-34 field goals.

The Lady Patriot’s advance to Thursday’s consolation championship at noon, where they will face Sunshine Bible who defeated Iroquois 52-21 Monday.
