Bobcats avenge loss against Huron girls

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bobcats avenged its loss earlier in the season against the Huron Tigers with a 45-35 victory on Saturday.

The Bobcats, who earned just their second victory in 12 outings this season, held just a 24-23 lead at the half. They outscored Huron 11-5 in the third quarter to build a 35-28 lead and then added to it in the final quarter.

Brookings converted on seven of 13 shots from 3-point range, while Huron was just 1 of 11 from beyond the arc.

Kaitlyn Hadley and Lauren Coughlen each had 12 points to lead the Bobcats. Amelia Miller and Emily Johnson added nine and eight points, respectively.

Sara Tvedt had a team-high 10 rebounds to help Brookings to a 37-32 advantage on the boards.

Katelyn Allerdings was the lone player to reach double figures for the Tigers, who dropped to 2-10, with 11 points. Sarah Carr had seven points.

Huron will return to action Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. game against Mitchell at Huron Arena.

Brookings edged Huron 40-35 in the sophomore game on Saturday. Taya Butterfield had 15 points to lead the Tigers, while Sami Zell and Lexi Eckmann each had four rebounds.

The Bobcats also won the freshman game 67-34. Kameron Schroder led Huron with 16 points, while Kaci Schimke had 11 points and four rebounds.
