Mitchell girls race past Huron, 64-33

HURON — The Huron Tiger girls’ basketball team struggled out of the gate Tuesday evening finding themselves down 13 after one quarter and never found an offensive rhythm to match that of Mitchell who won the game 64-33.

Missed shots and turnovers were the difference as Mitchell shot 47 percent for the game and the Tigers shot just 33 percent while committing 29 turnovers, which was double that of the Kernels.

Mitchell built a 31-14 halftime lead as they shot over 50 percent (13-for 24) and forced 17 Tiger turnovers.

Macy Miller had 13 points in the half on 6-for-7 shooting which matched the Tiger output who were 6-20 over the first two quarters.

Miller finished with a game-high 26 points and a game-high eight rebounds, six assists and seven steals, in 25 minutes of play.

Kerri Young scored 15 points for the Kernels and also had six assists and seven steals.

For the Tigers freshman Sarah Carr led all Tigers with seven points and grabbed six rebounds.

Sophomore Jacey Hupp added six points, and Katelyn Allerdings scored four while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.

Senior MaKayla Goergen had a pair of assists and one of the Tigers two three-pointers while Kiana Larson also had two assists.

The other three-point goal was made by senior Brittany Steffen.

The Tigers are now 2-11 on the season and 1-3 in the district as they have split with Pierre but still have games at Aberdeen Central next Tuesday and at Mitchell Feb. 16.

After next Tuesday’s road game the Tigers’ will play four straight home games against Spearfish on Feb. 1, Sturgis on Feb. 2, Yankton on Feb. 7 and Brandon Valley on Feb. 9.

Then comes the Mitchell game followed by the season finale Feb. 19 at Watertown.

In the sophomore game the Tigers fell 43-39. Taya Butterfield had 16 points while Jacey Hupp finished with seven.

In the freshman game the Tigers’ rally came up just short in a 27-25 loss.

Cameron Schroeder had 16 points while Katie Schoenfelder Sara Skorheim and Lexi DeLamere each had three.
