Crow Creek wins fourth straight girls’ title

HURON — For a fourth consecutive year, Crow Creek emerged with the girls’ championship at the Dakota Oyate Challenge. The Lady Chieftains defeated Marty 66-27 in the title game on Saturday at Huron Arena.

Omaha Nation used a 53-43 victory against Tiospa Zina to finish third in the girls’ tournament. The Flandreau Indians claimed the consolation championship with a 56-18 win against Takini and Crazy Horse edged Tiospaye 27-23 for seventh place.

Boxscores from all of Saturday’s games will run in Tuesday’s paper.



Semifinals

Crow Creek 53, Tiospa Zina 44

Crow Creek earned a spot in the championship game of the Dakota Oyate Challenge with a 53-44 victory against Tiospa Zina on Friday at Huron Arena.

Evaline Arrow scored 15 of her 20 points for Crow Creek in the second half. Shanise Pease added 13 points.

Breanna Jackson led all scorers with 27 points for Tiospa Zina. She had 18 points in the second half, including two of her three 3-pointers.

Marty 73, Omaha Nation 55

HURON - Four players reached double figures, as Marty defeated Omaha Nation 73-55 in the semifinals of the Dakota Oyate Challenge on Friday at Huron Arena.

Dominique Diaz led the Lady Braves with 21 points. Armanda Iron Elk had 17 points, while Jordan Drapeau and Rose Drapeau each added 10 points.

Marty converted on 23 of 28 shots from the free-throw line to secure the victory and a spot in the title game.

Brenna Parker led Omaha Nation with 14 points, while Tyesha Parker added 13 points and Keisha Grant had nine points.
