Tiospa Zina, Crow Creek win DOC titles

HURON — Tiospa Zina claimed the boys’ championship of the Dakota Oyate Challenge with a 44-40 victory against Marty on Saturday at Huron Arena.

Patrick Nanaeto had 15 points, including nine in the second half, to lead Tiospa Zina. Jeff Max Jr. also reached double figures with 10 points.

Xiomar Zephier had a game-high 20 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Braves. Clinton Neise had eight points, while Colt Salcedo added five points.

HURON — Omaha Nation used a 48-43 victory against Crow Creek to claim the third spot in the Dakota Oyate Challenge on Saturday at Huron Arena.

Donavon Cook had 19 points to lead the Chiefs. Marcus Walker had 10 points, while Joseph Saul added eight points.

Claye Thunder Horse scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half for Crow Creek. Cory Bishop also reached double figures with 12 points, while Craig Medicine Crow had eight points.

HURON — After holding a 10-point lead at the half, the Flandreau Indians held on for a 58-53 win against Takini in the consolation championship of the Dakota Oyate Challenge on Saturday at Huron Arena.

Tanner Drappeau had a game-high 21 points to lead the Flandreau Indians. Kamen Grant had 11 points, while Rueban Crow Feather and Trulo Adams had eight and seven points, respectively.

RJ Marrowbone had 16 points to lead three players in double figures for Takini. Tiger Condon had 13 points, while Chad LaPointe added 12 points.

HURON — Tiospa Topa defeated Crazy Horse 53-49 for seventh place in the Dakota Oyate Challenge on Saturday.

Tyler Pickner led Tiospaye Topa with 16 points, while Timmy Pickner added 10 points. Hinzi Thunder Hawk, Jake Frazier and Kansas Ghost Bear all had seven points.

Wakan Moves Camp had a game-high 33 points for Crazy Horse. Trenton Chipps and Jesse Brewer finished with eight and six points, respectively.

HURON — Crow Creek pulled away in the second half for a 66-27 victory against Marty in the girls’ championship game of the Dakota Oyate Challenge on Saturday at Huron Arena. It was the fourth consecutive title for the Lady Chieftains.

Shanise Pease had 15 points to lead three players in double figures for Crow Creek. Evaline Arrow and Tracy He Crow finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Marty was led by Armanda Iron Elk and Jordan Drapeau with nine and eight points, respectively.

HURON – Omaha Nation rallied in the second half for a 53-43 victory against Tiospa Zina to finish third in the Dakota Oyate Challenge on Saturday.

Tyesha Parker had 17 points to lead the Lady Chiefs. Brenna Parker and Keisha Grant added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Breonna Jackson had a game-high 22 points for Tiospa Zina. Jordee Appenay finished with 10 points, while Jacque Jackson had eight points.

Shoshone Jorgenson had 15 points to lead the Flandreau Indians, while Mira Poupart, Kourtney Merrick and Jada Morris all added eight points.

Cora Flying By led Takini with six points, while Christein Mexican added five points.

Shantai Philbrick had 13 points for Crazy Horse, while Amber LaMont added eight points.

Keysha Guajardo was the lone player to reach double figures for Tiospaye Topa. KyAnne Ghost Bear added five points.
