Huron youths win scholarships at state tourneys

HURON Huron youths came home with scholarships last weekend after competing in the SD State USBC Pepsi Bowling Championships in Pierre and Aberdeen.

Shealay Smith finished first in the District 2 girls-under-8 (U8) division at Lariat Lanes in Pierre with 316, 50 pins higher than the second-place finisher. She receives a scholarship.

Also winning scholarships were Kayla Smith, who finished second in District 2 girls (U12) with 431, and Lorika Hein, third at 396.

Ashton Trowbridge placed second with 467 in District 2 boys (U12) to win a scholarship.

Makiah Schweigert advanced from fifth place in the statewide girls (U15) semifinal round at Village Bowl in Aberdeen to finish second in the stepladder finals, losing 253-167 to Brooke Allen of Chamberlain. Schweigert defeated two girls from Pierre and one from Rapid City to make the stepladder finals and win a scholarship.
