Huron splits twinbill against Watertown

WATERTOWN — Behind a complete-game effort on the mound by Cole Peterson, the Huron Tigers defeated Watertown 9-1 to earn a split in a spring baseball doubleheader on Sunday in Watertown.

With a run in the first inning and two in the second inning, the Tigers opened a 3-0 lead. After giving a run back in the bottom of the third, Huron broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning and added two more runs in the seventh inning.

En route to the win on the mound, Peterson allowed six hits, while striking out one and walking one.

Damen Robish doubled to highlight the offensive effort for the Tigers, who finished with eight hits. He finished with a pair of hits, along with Matt Johnson.

JP Noonan and Lake Gogolin each finished with a pair of RBIs.

Watertown emerged with a 9-1 victory in the other game of the twinbill.

Tristan Hamilton and Peterson each had two hits for the Tigers.

Johnson recorded eight strikeouts through 6 1/3 innings on the mound for Huron. He allowed eight hits, while walking two.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Mitchell in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader today at Klock Field.
