A piece of sports history: Sports memorabilia to be part of silent auction at Canaries game

The Huron Community Foundation displayed some of the sports memorabilia that will be part of the silent auction and festivities of the Sioux Falls Canaries game Friday at Memorial Park. HURON ó Members of the Huron Community Foundation displayed Wednesday some of the items that will be part of the silent auction Friday as part of the 9th annual Canaries baseball game.

On display Wednesday were an autographed bat signed Twins slugger Josh Willingham who in six full major league seasons has 172 home runs. Several items have also been donated by pitcher Trevor Cahill nephew of Huronís Bill Cahill including a wall hanging he autographed from his current team the Arizona Diamondbacks.

However, other sports memorabilia will also be available similar to the autographed puck and picture from right winger Devin Setoguchi from the Minnesota Wild who had 13 goals and 14 assists during the regular season.

Also available for bidding will be various local merchant packages.

All information on these prizes and auction items will be available during the Jack Linkís Tailgate activities.

The Jack Linkís Tailgate Party will begin at 5 p.m. with the on-field activities scheduled for 6:45 p.m. The first pitch will be thrown out by Brad Huber from the Center For Independence at 7:05 p.m. before he Sioux Falls Canaries return play the Sioux City Explorers at Memorial Stadium.

The Canaries baseball players and coaching staff will offer a youth camp on the Klock Field which has been built alongside Memorial Stadium. The camp starts at 5:30 p.m. and is free to all area youth.

Participants will have the opportunity to interact and receive instructional training on the game of baseball from the players and staff of the Canaries.

Advance game tickets and general admission along with Advance VIP seating can be purchased at the gate. The VIP seating are reserved seating.

The following locations have advance tickets: Huron Area Chamber of Commerce, Dakotaland Federal Credit Union (Huron, DeSmet, and Woonsocket), American Bank and Trust (Huron, Wal-Mart location, Wolsey, Wessington Springs, Alpena, Miller, and DeSmet), Farmers and Merchants Bank, Heartland State Bank (Wessington, Highmore, and Tulare), and MO Federal Credit Union

HCF will present their 2013 annual grants during the evening of the game.
