ESTELLINE — The De Smet girls’ track team edged Arlington for the title in the Dakota Valley Conference Meet on Thursday in Estelline.
The Lady Bulldogs finished with 113 points, while Arlington had 110.5 points. Elkton-Lake Benton was third at 103, followed by Estelline at 88.5 and Castlewood at 72.
Kayli Bucholz won the girls’ high jump for De Smet with a state-qualifying mark of 4-feet, 11-inches, while teammate Kelsey Poppen was second at 4-9.
Poppen also was second for the Lady Bulldogs in the 100 hurdles, with a time of 17.23 seconds.
Maria Huntimer won the shot put for De Smet with a throw of 39-5, with teammate Amanda Poppen claiming second with a throw of 38-9.5. Both were state-qualifying distances.
Amanda Poppen also won the discus for the Lady Bulldogs, with a state-qualifying throw of 120-0. Huntimer was third in the event at 102-7.
Elkton-Lake Benton won the boys’ title in the DVC, with 145 points. Deubrook Area was second at 110, followed by Estelline at 88, Arlington at 77 and Castlewood at 68.
De Smet was 10th in the final boys’ standings.
